You already know the benefits of a consistent yoga practice to build and create energy, momentum, and harmony in your life.

But did you know there is another type of energy that humans have been using for thousands of years to guide their life, decisions, and actions?

Look up at the sky and you will see the source of this energy. It is earth's constant celestial companion – the moon!

In our modern information and technology-driven world, we can forget that nature runs in cycles and rhythms. One such cycle is the waxing and waning of the moon.

In this episode, I speak with Simona Schimanovich, a certified yoga teacher who has been incorporating moon energy into her practice for many years. She shares how you can use the Moon to set intentions and manifestations each month. You’ll learn how you can incorporate Moon energy into your daily life.

The Journey – It may not make sense in the moment but go with it [19:10]

Simona's yoga journey began when she was 29, living in her native Austria, and navigating her way through a difficult divorce. To cope with this crisis, she turned to yoga to find clarity and peace. This divorce was the catalyst that sparked her devotion to yoga and eventual exploration of Lunar energy.

Simona shares the breakthrough she had that finally propelled her to doing more work around the Moon energy. One day, after drinking her third cup of coffee and still feeling exhausted, she realized that it was bizarre to try and operate “like machines” rather than honor our own natural cycles. Understanding that life is not linear can help you become more efficient and fulfilled

In the Western culture, we perceive time as linear, always moving in a forward direction at a constant pace. Simona explains that there are rhythms in nature and when we align ourselves with these rhythms, we become more efficient and fulfilled.

She shares how ancient cultures and modern Chinese and Hindu cultures are aware of this fact with celebrations based on the Lunar calendar. Simona explains that the underlying principle of moon energy is that there is a time for everything. A time to start. A time to stop. A time to be creative and energetic, and a time to rest. Paying attention to the moon can help you identify these moments resulting in greater fulfillment and happiness. Once we change our perception from things being linear to understanding there is a rhythm, we get acceptance.

Working with the Moon phases to optimize energy

Simona walks us through the phases of the moon starting with a dark new moon which is ideal for setting intentions and turning inwards. As the moon waxes, which is the rebirth of light, energy starts to build until the moon is at its brightest – the full moon. The full moon is a time where the energy is greatest and can be perfect for any activity be it strong yoga practice, shaking, or dancing. The last two weeks of the cycle, when the moon dissolves back to darkness, is accompanied by a time of releasing, closing, and acceptance. Where do I start? Take these small steps to begin working with the moon

Simona shares her recommendations for how beginners can start working with moon energy. Notice what cycle the moon is in and how your everyday experiences and emotions are affected. Then use the new moon as a time to set intentions and affirmations for the coming month.

Working with the moon to set intentions and manifest desires

Simona talks about how setting intentions at the right time is akin to planting seeds. Plant a seed at the wrong time and it won't grow. Plant an intention at the wrong time and it will be weak. Simona shares a few tips to create stronger manifestations such as being in the right headspace before setting an intention to ensure it comes from the heart and not the mind. She also suggests writing down the intention and affirmations and keep repeating them while the moon is waxing. Finally imagine the feeling when the intention is fulfilled. What emotions bubble to the surface? How will you act? How will you celebrate?

One of Your Biggest Lessons So Far

Ensure that you are ready and open to receive without internal resistance. Moon energy has helped as it contains more receptive energy than active solar energy. If you ask, make sure you are willing to receive.
